Hundreds of national and international organizations provide assistance to refugees.  Some of the more prominent ones are:

 

 

International Rescue Committee: a global humanitarian aid and relief organization.  It provides emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution, or natural disasters.  The IRC is currently working in 40 countries and 26 U.S cities where it resettles refugees and helps them become self-sufficient.  It focuses mainly on health, education, economic wellbeing, and safety.  Consisting of first responders, humanitarian relief workers, health care providers, and educators, the IRC has assisted million of people around the world since its founding in 1933.  It can be found at:

International Committee of the Red Cross: a global humanitarian organization based in Geneva, Switzerland.  By various treaties and international protocols, the ICRC is mandated to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts.  Such victims include war wounded persons, prisoners, refugees, civilian, and other non-combatants.  The ICRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, along with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.  It can be found at:

International Refugee Assistance Project: an organization founded in New York City, the IRAP works worldwide to organize lawyers and law students to develop and enforce legal and human rights for refugees and displaced persons.  The IRAP has developed an innovative model for mobilizing legal resources to assure safe passage to destination countries, ensuring fair and humane treatment of vulnerable individuals.  It can be found at:

International Catholic Migration Commission: an international organization that serves and protects uprooted people, including migrants, refugees, and internally displaced people regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, or nationality.  The ICMC’s core programs consist of refugee resettlement, humanitarian assistance, and advocacy for migration.  The ICMC provides shelter, health care, cash assistance, and additional assistance for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.  It can be found at:

International Organization for Migration: an agency of the United Nations that provides services and advice to governments and migrants.  Founded in 1951, the IOM works to promote humane and orderly migration by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.  It participated in the creation of the Global Compact for Migration, an intergovernmental agreement on international migration which was adopted in 2018.  It can be founded at:

Refugees International: a privately funded organization created in 1979 to defend the rights of people fleeing Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.  Since then, it has expanded to become a globally focused organization, advocating for refugees wherever their rights are at risk.  It can be found at:

UN Refugees: an agency of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the UNRA works to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, whether fleeing violence or persecution or war at home.  Since 1950, it has faced multiple crises on multiple continents, providing vital protection and assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers, internally displaced, and stateless people, many of whom have no where else to turn.  The UNRA helps to save lives and build better futures for millions of people forced from home.  It can be found at:

Save the Children: an international organization founded in 1919 to aid children suffering from the consequences of World War I in Europe.  Since then, the organization has expanded to a global outreach to ensure that children can grow up to be healthy, educated, and safe.  Save the Children is often the first, and frequently the only child-focused organization working in the hardest to reach places where it's the hardest to be a child.  They are currently working in over 100 countries to prevent the physical and emotional abuse of children, along with deprivation, neglect, and sexual exploitation.  They can be found at:

World Relief: an Evangelical Christian organization, the humanitarian arm of the National Association of Evangelicals and a leading refugee resettlement agency.  WR helps refugees as soon as they are forced to flee their homes by providing essentials such as clean water and food.  WR also helps refugees find affordable homes and employment.  Because it was founded in the United States, WR helps refugees learn English if needed.  Since 1979, WR has successfully relocated and supported over 300,000 refugees in the United States.  It can be found at:
